Fall Greens Recovery and Fertility Program

Posted by Ben Pease, Agronomist, PhD on September 01, 2022

After a hot and dry 2022 growing season, many greens need a balanced fertility program to help them recover from summer weather stress and fall aerification practices.

The Andersons line of Contec DG® fertilizers and soil amendments have the technology and nutrition necessary to replenish essential plant nutrients expended over the growing season. Various phosphorus and potassium options are available, depending on other nutrient needs such as calcium or magnesium. Many of these fertilizers also contain value-adding humic acid components to help stimulate soil microbial populations and increase efficiency of applied nutrients.

This three-part program is designed for use in late summer and early fall to provide greens with the proper phosphorus and potassium fertility to facilitate stress recovery and stimulate growth after an aeration event. Timing of the applications is best determined through the TNT ® (Turf Nutrition Tool), in conjunction with any planned cultural events.

APPLICATION 1

This first application is all about helping to improve your soil.

(21% HUMIC ACID)
Black Gypsum DG acts as a flushing agent for soils with high salt levels due to summer drought conditions or effluent water use that also delivers calcium and sulfur. Contains 21% humic acid to help improve cation exchange capacity while enhancing the efficiency of applied nutrients. Features DG Technology, which quickly moves the product to the root zone with proper irrigation or rainfall.

APPLICATION 2

This step is important to replenish potassium that may have leached due to the Black Gypsum DG application or from heavy irrigation needed throughout the summer. Choose from three Contec DG formulations depending on soil nutrient needs. Each of these products combines premium nutrition with our Dispersing Granule (DG) Technology.

CONTEC DG 0-0-12 MAG-TEC
Contains 24% magnesium and 12% sulfur, for use in situations requiring these nutrients, along with 12% soluble potash. Specifically designed for use on greens and tees.

CONTEC DG 0-0-13 KAL-TEC®
Contains multiple essential nutrients, in addition to 13% potassium, for use in situations requiring calcium, sulfur, manganese, or magnesium.

CONTEC DG 0-0-25
Contains magnesium, manganese, and sulfur, coupled with the highest amount (25%) of available potash in the Contec DG line of fertilizers.

APPLICATION 3

Here, you’re helping stressed turf recover from summer weather and fall aeration activities. Both options contain humic acid to help improve soil health.

An all-in-one fertility and soil amendment product that provides macro and micronutrients to aid the turf in recovery from aeration and summer stress. Utilizes DG Technology and contains 8.3% humic acid to offer superior turf nutrition.

CONTEC DG 11-8-9
One of the most popular Contec DG fertilizers for greens recovery and fertility because it is a homogenous mixture of SmartPhos® DG 4-22-0 and Contec DG 15-0-15, providing plant-available N and P over an extended period. Contains 1.25% humic acid.
