The Andersons is celebrating Global Fertilizer Day 2023 on October 13 and our team is spreading the word about the importance of fertilizers and the fertilizer industry.
Global Fertilizer Day is an annual event hosted by The Fertilizer Institute, the International Fertilizer Association, Fertilizer Canada, and Fertilizers Europe. Celebrated around the world, Global Fertilizer Day events include student tours, open houses, job fairs, and hosted tours for elected officials. This day serves as a reminder of the essential role fertilizers play in ensuring food safety and security worldwide.
In celebration, here are some facts about fertilizers and the fertilizer industry:
- Fertilizer significantly increases the amount of food that can be safely grown per acre with experts estimating that fertilizers allow two out of five people worldwide to have access to a reliable food supply.
- According to the Department of Labor’s data for similar wholesale, mining, and manufacturing companies, the fertilizer industry had 1.6x fewer work-related injuries.
- U.S. fertilizer companies employ nearly 488,000 people.
- The fertilizer industry contributes $130.85 billion to the U.S. economy.
- U.S. farmers have been able to more than double corn production since 1980, using only 6.9% more fertilizer.
